Annette O'Toole plays Cheryl Cunningham"This was my first film with Annette O'Toole. She is an amazing performer and a truly wonderful human being!

Morgue Photo 1Our first day of work together was rather unique. She wasn't supposed to be pretty, or even normal in appearance..., the first scenes with her were in the morgue when her character was dead! No time to get to know one another, she was immediately thrown into 'grey-pallor' body makeup with numerous facial and body wounds and bruises. Candace Blake, the Makeup Assistant, created some of the great body bruises while I concentrated on the facial lacerations."

Morgue Photo 2Morgue Photo 4In the real case, Brad Cunningham allegedly used a crowbar-type weapon to beat Cheryl Cunningham over 23 times in the facial area, dislodging her brain and one eye. Because of television standards, some of the most graphic simulations were 'toned-down.'

Morgue Photo 5"I have often fought with networks concerning graphic violence in sexual or spousal abuse cases. I DO NOT promote graphic violence in most movie-of-the-weeks or series EXCEPT when it serves a greater purpose. When it comes to spousal abuse, I believe it is important not to 'water' down the violence too much. An underlying goal in this type of project is to educate the public. By showing how badly a victim of abuse can be assaulted, maybe we can scare the s**t out of someone enough to make them get help."

The director agreed and the scenes of the murder and morgue were left graphically intact with only minimal changes.

Morgue Photo 3"This is my favorite shot of the morgue photos. Not because of the makeup, which is minimal in this photo, but as an example of the actor's craft. Although all that is required is to 'lay there and be dead,' this photo shows the hand in a natural position that is as close to real as you can get. O'Toole was practicing the craft even while 'just laying still'!
Thanks for making me look good, Annette!!!"
