A FOX Television Series What an Operator!
Special Make-up Effects included open heart surgery on a shooting victim. The piece was created from a lifecast of the actress. The chest cast was reproduced in clay and re-sculpted to show the open chest cavity.
For the heart, a hog's heart was used. It was 'filleted' on the inside to reduce the thickness of the walls and create a more realistic 'beating' effect. The heart was then tinted with inks and the bladders were installed. Super glue held the various elements together (It works great on flesh!!) The final shot of the heart is very brief. "It has always been my opinion that it is better to catch a quick glimpse of an effect and let the audience 'fill in the blanks" (Photos from the series "Medicine Ball" are watermarked/copyrighted FOX Television/Lakeside Productions) Back to Chimera Studios
