World Trade Tower Trauma

Who would have thought they would use Portland, OR to film the TV drama about the World Trade Tower bombing in New York?

Well they did, and it gave me the opportunity to work with George Clooney. George is a funny, irreverent, prankster that always kept the set upbeat.

The film was loaded with great makeup challenges. Clooney's character falls into the 'pit' created by the bombing and breaks his leg. On the short schedule of a Movie-Of-The-Week, there is seldom time for prosthetics, so for this effect we created a fireman's boot that had the broken bone/wound incorporated into it. George would just slip it on, we would dress it with blood and he was good to go.

The rest of the makeup's were basic trauma/smoke inhalation. The makeup/hair crew on the project was fantastic. Jacqueline Bordeaux and Christina Liczbinski in the hair department and Vinnie Hagood and Dave Beneke in makeup. It's pretty amazing to see full trauma makeup on 23 principal performers and 150 extras accomplished in less than 2 1/2 hours!

The show was being filmed while the hunt for the bombers was ongoing. Our ending was not even decided until we were almost finished filming! At least we weren't on the Waco/Koresh film shooting at the same time. Their ending changed drastically as a result of the tragic fire.
