Parental control software is as easily installed as other common computer software, and it offers active "lockout" of web sites or limits the amount of time a child can use a computer.

It is the responsibility
of all adults to provide for themselves and their loved ones
protection from those dangers they personally fear. |
"'Harmful,' 'indecent,' and 'inappropriate' material shares just one trait: All of it is protected by the First Amendment ... So claim your rights as an adult. Make it known that you birthed your kids and that you'll parent 'em, thanks so much -- or that you're over 18 and don't need anyone, much less that moral paragon known as the average American politician, to decide what you can see and read." In a review of an Internet pornography issue involving the Communications Decency Act, the US Supreme Court ruled that "... governmental regulation of the content of speech is more likely to interfere with the free exchange of ideas than to encourage it. The interest in encouraging freedom of expression in a democratic society outweighs any theoretical but unproven benefit of censorship." Because rights of "free speech" are traditionally held to regulate only services and enterprises which are owned or operated by government agencies, we also support the right of any private (non-governmental) information provider or communications service to exercise any form of censorship which that provider may consider appropriate. We believe the common sense of their customers and the power of the free market will determine the success or failure of any such censorship efforts. Angela Gunn, of Yahoo! Internet Life |
