	Redwork
	Redwork is a traditional style of outline embroidery. It is a usually worked in a simple outline, cable or backstitch and therefore can be executed by a beginner or master. Redwork quilts date from the late 1800s through the early 1900s. Women's magazines carried simple drawings, designed to be traced. Full sized transfer patterns could also be purchased by mail. "Penny Squares", available from the local Mercantile were pre-stamped blocks costing a penny apiece. Flowers, animals, family life and nursery themes were favorite subjects. Newspapers carried syndicated series of embroidery designs by artists who became household names such as Mary Cullen, and Nancy Page. Commemorative quilts were also made in honor of presidents and international expositions. Red was the most popular color for outline embroidery due to the colorfast "turkey red" cotton embroidery floss that became available in the mid 1800s.

	Grandma's House
	I like to go to Grandma's house, There's so much to do and see. It's right by the edge of the big green woods, Down by the deep blue sea.

	This poem continues in six more verses and celebrates a visit to Grandma's house. Her home by the sea holds discoveries and adventures aplenty for her grandchildren. This is an original poem by Denise Clausen written for her granddaughter Elisabeth Ruth. The fourteen full-sized patterns may be enlarged or reduced to fit like a puzzle using your favorite blocks. Mix and match them with the lettering patterns to create your own unique quilt. Instructions are included for lettering on fabric. Supplies needed, besides fabrics and general sewing supplies, are a ZIG permanent calligraphy marker, either a 08 PIGMA MICRON pen, or a PIGMA Callipen and freezer paper.

	Encourage Youth
			An Irish Proverb: Encourage youth and it will blossom.
	This Irish Proverb is featured on 2 designs for 24 inch wall hanging sized quilts and one a 52 inch throw. Pattern includes applique, strip-pieced and hand lettering patterns. Wall hanging #1 is constructed with two hand-colored library panels and two panels of appliqued blossoms. Wall hanging #2 is constructed with two strip-pieced panels and two panels of appliqued leaves. The throw quilt has eight appliqued schoolhouse blocks alternating with quilted apples for a teacher's quilt.
