4th Nestucca Bay Cleanup a BIG success!
About 50 people gathered at the County Boat Ramp in Pacific City at 9 am on March 10th to hunt down debris in Nestucca Bay. The results were impressive: 3,140 pounds of trash. "Treasures" included 14 tires, 2 calf hutches, 1 refrigerator and even a small boat...amazing what winds up in our waterways!
THANK YOU again to all who contributed.
Local sponsors included Migrations Espresso & Books, Grateful Bread Bakery, Harvest Fresh Riverplace Deli, PC Hardware & Lumber, Sportsmen's Pub ‘N Grub, Grocery Outlet and Safeway. Other sponsors included Tillamook Co. Public Works, Tillamook Co. Parks, Oregon State Parks, Oregon Dept. of Fish & Wildlife, and SOLV.

The Nestucca Bay Cleanup is an award winning biennial event where volunteers of all ages from all corners of Tillamook County come to conquer trash and spend a day giving a little back to the estuary. Plus it is an excuse to play in the mud! Sponsored by NNWC, in the past the Nestucca Bay Cleanup has attracted several hundred willing laborers who have hauled out over 5.5 tons of rubbish and over 300 tires in a coordinated land and sea effort. A big thank you to all boat owners who contribute to this event ferrying volunteers around the bay and returning with debris. And to volunteers with trucks who helped haul trash off the spit and ferry it from other sites around the bay. The inaugural 2000 event won the SOLV Cup Award for Best Rural Project and Governor Kitzhaber honored NNWC with a commemorative plaque. The next Nestucca Bay Cleanup is planned for March 2009. We hope to see all of our volunteers at this or a future Sand Lake Cleanup scheduled for 2008. Donations to help fund it can be mailed to NNWC, PO 255, Hebo, OR, 97122. All contributions are tax-deductible.
