Books by James Marshall

James Marshall was a master of choosing perfect simple phrases to tell hilarious, irreverent, charming stories. His drawings are always funny, poignant, graceful, wry, & full of sympathy & insight. The many colorful characters (animals, humans, monsters, sometimes even plants) express emotions, irritations, & puzzlements in a very entertaining way, and tiny points of facial expression & posture add extra dimension to every thought & plot-twist.

Fox is irritated and thinks it's very boring -- until he sees a pretty white fox, with a bow in her hair & a lovely polka-dotted dress, playing on the merry-go-round alone. She says her name is Raisin. Fox is stunned... and suddenly develops great enthusiasm for the park, even dragging Louise along on the following day when she doesn't want to go! Later, Fox & Raisin go to the fair and also practice for a dance contest ... both events turning out a little differently than Fox had planned.
