Connecting to the Internet via Modem
for Mac OS 8.6-9.x

To access the Internet with a modem, you must use PPP. PPP stands for
Point-to-Point Protocol. It is a means of providing Internet connectivity,
including access to e-mail, FTP, telnet, and the World Wide Web, via modem
connections.
What You Will Need
Configuring The TCP/IP Control Panel

From the menu, select and then .

Under the Connect Via listing select PPP.

Under the Configure listing select PPP Server.

The Name server addr field should be left blank.

Under the Additional search
domains listing input: oregoncoast.com on separate
lines.

Close the TCP/IP control
panel and click on the Save button
to set the current configuration.
Configuring The Remote Access or PPP Control Panel

From the menu, select and then . If you do not have a panel, please select the control panel.

Enter your oregoncoast.com dialup account user name in the Name field.

In the Number field enter the
appropriate number based on your location.

Note: If you have call waiting, you may
wish to disable it while connected to the internet. To do so, a code
needs to be appended to the beginning of the dialup number. Enter *70,, (star seventy comma comma) before the dialup number.

Close the Remote Access control
panel and click on the Save button
to set the current configuration.
Connecting to The WAVE

To make a PPP connection, open the Remote Access control panel or the PPP control panel.

Enter your oregoncoast.com e-mail account password in the Password field.

Click on the Connect button.
The OT/Remote Access software will complete the connection. You
should notice that the Connect button has
changed to Disconnect, indicating
that you are currently connected. A timer will also appear
indicating the duration of your connection.
Disconnecting from The WAVE
When you are finished working online, remember to
disconnect.
To close your PPP connection, click on the Disconnect button in the Remote Access (PPP) control panel.
Note: If your connection is idle for
20 minutes, the system may automatically disconnect.
