Windows Vista Dialup Connection Wizard
To set up a Dialup connection you will need three pieces of information: your Dialup Username, the Dialup Password, and the Dialup Local Number.

Dialup Username

The Dialup username is your primary email address.  For example, if your primary email address is matccssz@oregoncoast.com, then your Dialup username will be:matccssz@oregoncoast.com.

Dialup Password

Your Dialup password will be the same password as for your WAVE primary email address. In the example above, the Dialup password would be the same as the one for the email address, matccssz@oregoncoast.com

Dialup Local Numbers

The phone number that your computer dials to connect to Dialup is as follows:

Be sure you enter the Area Code:

Tillamook, Garibaldi, Bay City, Rockaway :  503 815-9283
Neskowin, Cloverdale, Beaver 503 392-6178
Pacific City
503 965-9936

If you are dialing from an area that is not a local call, please check the Roaming Access Numbers list for a local number for your city and state.

Connecting the Modem

Most new computers come with an internal modem featuring a pair of phone jacks. One of these jacks should be labeled " Line" and the other "Phone". Quite often these labels are difficult to read, so you may wish to consult your system documentation to determine which is which. You will need to have a phoneline connecting your wall phone jack with the "Line" jack of your modem. If you wish, you can connect an ordinary phone into the "Phone" jack. This phone may be used in the normal way when you are not connected to the Internet.  Never ever plug a cordless phone base in to the computer, however, as that is a transmitter and could cause problems with the chips and boards inside the computer case.

Please do not route the phone line through a printer, splitter, or FAX machine, your connection will be horrible at best.

The New Connection Wizard

Windows' Connection Wizard now handles much more than Internet Connections, so experienced users will notice a few more steps at the beginning of the process. NOTE: The Connection Wizard will not delete any old ISP settings you may have installed, but will add new dialers that will become the new "default" setting.

Starting the Internet Connection Wizard

  1. To start the Connection Wizard, click on the Start menu, then click Connect To.

  2. Click on the Set up a connection or network option.

  3. Select Set up a dial-up connection and click Next

  4. Based on your location, enter the appropriate telephone number in the Dial-up Phone Number box: You will not need to use an area code.

  5. Enter your primary email address in the User name box, and enter your password in the Password box.  (Note: place a check in the Show characters box if you wish to be able to see the characters of your password while typing it).

  6. Click the box beside Remember this password so it is checked.

  7. Enter WAVE in the Connection Name box.

  8. Verify that your phoneline is connected to your computer's dialup modem, and click the Connect button.

  9. You will be connected.  (If you receive The Internet connectivity test was unsuccessful screen, please select Set up the connection anyway, and call Wave Internet Services technical support).

  10. Click OK to close the Internet Properties.

  11. The next time that you open your email program or Internet browser (Internet Explorer or Firefox) you should be prompted to connect.

  12. Disconnecting from Dialup:

    • Click on the Start menu, and select Connect To.

    • In the Connect to a network window, select the dialup connection and click on the Disconnect button.
